Dear brothers and sisters,

Thank you for coming here today. Heartstrings is our place to connect and encourage. Here we find that God Is Good...all the time.

So why fret? I know this word isn't spoken much in the language of today. It does sound kind of old time to my ears. But, when I went to check out the word I found it speaks proudly of worry, torment and anquish, aggitation and distress. Even writing these words make me weary.

That is exactly what fretting does! Don't you feel weaker when you are worrying over something? I heard of a person using a worry-stone. They rub it whenever they feel threatened or unable to gain power to overcome in a situation.

Sad. But true. That is why Jesus told us not to fret. Was He? Knowing the plans the Father and Jesus and the Holy Spirit agreed on; yet He did not worry or fret. Jesus wants us to remain in peace, the opposite of what you may be feeling right now.

Then there is you and I. Many gone before us had the same tendency. Adam and Eve were pretty worried about being found out by God. They tried to hide from Him. How silly is that but, we do the same when we try to hide or excuse our sins.

I think that Naomi in the book of Ruth was a fretting, anxious woman. "Will they accept me when I go back home?" Ruth was Naomi's stability because she just obeyed. What a godly woman.

Oh, and then there is Martha, one of my favorites! Jesus had to remind her that fretting over the meal was not the best position to peace. Take a look at Mary sitting at Jesus feet, in the moment, with her focus totally on Him.

There are others too. Hey guys what about Gideon? Jonah? Even King David. Abraham took things into his own hands because he wanted to please Sarah and worried that God wouldn't fulfill His promises.

Okay, I think you get the message. I know I am found guilty of this! Fretting? Don't do it! If you don't know what God is up to, be still. Just BE STILL and know that He is God. He will sustain us each day with exactly what we need.

If we are bothered by anything where should we go? You know the answer as well as I do but, sometimes we use fretting to nurture our emotions. The problem is that our fretting doesn't change anything; it does wear our bodies down quickly. As well as those around us.

It is a gradual wearing away by rubbing or gnawing. I guess you could say, Jesus knew what it would do to our lives physically, emotionally and spiritually.

God is aware of the little birds in my back yard. Yesterday I caught myself fretting that there wasn't enough seed for them. That led to the fact that I couldn't buy more. No money. Oops! Then I read again Matthew 6:25-34. I am so glad God doesn't slap me down when I weaken and forget. They were His birds first!

Our world gives us much to worry over, right? However, when we consider our Father, the Maker of heaven and earth and all that is in it...why should we worry? If you have an answer, let me know.

It is all a matter of Who we will serve when you think about it. Who is Master? Which one will we be devoted to and trust with all our hearts?

After all of this...God is able! He is able to keep us and those little birds outside. He is able to handle anything that comes our way.

Matthew 6:34 says, "So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble." It is just the fact of the matter.

Psalm 121:7-8 says, "The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore." He is our fresh life!

Let's just praise the Lord! For all His answers are found as we turn to Him and be still. From there, the steps are before us. He will not fail. Keep your hand in His. God bless you with a deeper wisdom and understanding of His matchless grace. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Abundance is...freedom from fretting
